Son of the first executive governor of Kogi State, the late Prince Abubakar Audu, has joined the army of aspirants jostling for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest the governorship election in the state billed for November 10 this year.
Prince Shuaib Audu and his supporters in the state thronged the APC national secretariat in Abuja where he purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms of the party.
Shuaib said he joined the race after months of consultations across diverse stakeholder platforms within and beyond Kogi State.
Speaking with journalists after obtaining the forms in Abuja, Shuaib noted that apart from from his governorship ambition, they were also at the APC national secretariat because of their resolve to actualise the presidential bid of the party’s standard bearer, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said, “We’re here for three major reasons. One is to continue to work hard to deliver the mandate of our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, at the February 25 election.
“We’re here to continue to express our support for his mandate; we’re here to express our support for gim. I believe that he can turn around the economy of Nigeria fundamentally, and he will be able to carry on the baton of the work that President Muhammadu Buhari has done over the last eight years”.
On his decision to run for the governorship of Kogi State, Audu stated that he is poised to build on the legacy of the state governor, Yahaya Bello.
He said, “The second reason why we’re here today is to also mention that the reason why I purchased the governorship form is to build on the legacy of the current executive governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, as well as security. good job in those two areas.
“And I want to present myself to the people of Kogi state, that I can carry on the mantle and take the development of Kogi State to a new level. Thirdly and very, very importantly, is also to honour the legacy of our great father, great politic icon, Prince Abubakar Audu, of blessed memory.
