Kebbi State Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar-Tafida appears to be keeping his political options open following his replacement as Governor Nasir Idris’ running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking in Argungu on Wednesday, Tafida rejected claims that his removal was linked to the Supreme Court’s decision on the 2023 governorship election, describing the explanation as a “bogus” narrative allegedly intended to damage his political reputation.

His replacement doesn’t however foreclose a future run for public office or an appointment at the federal level. But clearly, someone wants him out of the way,

While expressing acceptance of the APC’s’ decision, Tafida avoided a confrontation with the party or Governor Idris, stressing that political positions are temporary and that progress in life is possible “with politics or without politics.”

His remarks suggest a calculated effort to defend his reputation without shutting the door on future political opportunities.
