The draw for the much talked about 2024 Abuja All Stars Veterans Invitational Tournament has been conducted with the defending champions
Abuja International All Stars taking on City Gate All Stars on the opening day of the championship at FIFA Goal Project, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The tournament that has been noted for its opportunities to give retired professional footballers, philanthropists and football enthusiasts alike a platform to keep fit, reminiscing their football skills, artistry and relieving the past to football fans, will see 20 teams battling for supremacy in this year’s edition.
The draw for the championship which was conducted on Wednesday at the conference room of FIFA Goal Project, Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja by the trio of former Nigerian internationals – Augustine Eguavoen, Samson Siasia and Garba Lawal – had the 20 registered teams divided into five groups of four team each.
Group A comprises defending champions Abuja International All Stars, City Gate All Stars, Corporate Kickers and Jabi All Stars.
Nyanya All Stars who have participated in all three previous editions of the championship were drawn in Group B with debutant Abuja Teaching Hospital All Stars, Mark Steven All Stars and Lugbe All Stars.
Gwagwalada All Stars will face Unity Foundation Sport Club, Links Minds Stars and Kapital 14 Stars in Group C, while Apo Fitness Club take on Kuje All Stars, Police Machine and Nurudeen Veteran Stars.
Game Village All Stars will battle Karu All Stars, Ex-professionals and Kapital City All Stars in Group E.
The chairman of the organising committee, Patrick Bassey, said the tournament aims to improve cordial relationships between players of the participating club sides in the spirit of togetherness and good fellowship.
