Abuja Beautician Targets Guinness World Record With Free Brow Makeover

An Abuja-based beautician and cancer awareness campaigner, Yasmin Bamanga, plans to attempt a Guinness World Record in Brow Semi-Permanent Make-Up (SPMU) from Monday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Bamanga disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, describing the effort as “Africa’s first non-stop brow initiative,” aimed at supporting women, particularly those affected by cancer.

She explained that the 24-hour exercise, scheduled to run from 12 noon on April 20 to 12 noon the following day, would provide free eyebrow enhancement services to women.

“This initiative is for women and girls who have suffered from cancer in recent years,” she said. “We are expecting many participants, and we have already reached out to women in markets and communities who will benefit from this exercise.”

According to her, the project goes beyond beauty, serving as a form of community outreach for women who cannot afford such treatments.

“This is not just about beauty; it is about giving back to the community. Many women, especially market women, barely have time to take care of themselves due to family responsibilities. This initiative is a way of making them feel seen, valued and confident,” she added.

Bamanga noted that although the SPMU procedure is typically expensive, it will be offered free of charge during the event.

Explaining the link to cancer advocacy, she said many women who undergo cancer treatment experience hair loss, including their eyebrows.

“For those who have battled cancer and survived, this is a way of enhancing their appearance and restoring confidence,” she said.

She further clarified that SPMU differs from traditional tattooing, as it does not penetrate deeply into the skin and gradually fades over time.

“For the 24 hours, we will be carrying out semi-permanent eyebrow procedures that can last up to six months. The pigments used are waterproof and organic,” she explained.

Bamanga revealed that she aims to perform eyebrow procedures on 100 women within 24 hours in a bid to set a new world record for the most eyebrow procedures performed by an individual.

Speaking on previous attempts, she noted that a similar record attempt was made in India in November 2021 by Rekha Tailor, but it was not ratified by Guinness World Records due to concerns about hygiene standards.

“When we applied last year, Guinness raised concerns about hygiene based on the previous attempt, which is why our category is different. Ours is focused on natural SPMU, not tattooing,” she said.

She explained that necessary measures had been put in place to meet the required standards, including strict hygiene protocols, adding that the event will take place at the A-Class Event Centre in Maitama, Abuja, with an ambulance and healthcare personnel on standby throughout the event.

Bamanga, the creative director of Yasbeautyallure and a cancer advocate with Stand Up To Cancer, described herself as passionate about using beauty as a tool for confidence, healing and social impact.

On partnerships, she said Mr Naz Photography, Stand Up To Cancer, and Spring Travels are currently supporting the initiative, and she called on more organisations, including media outlets, to lend their support.

She also urged women and girls to take advantage of the free service, encouraging men to bring along their partners and daughters.

“There will also be free food and drinks for participants,” she added.
