Excitement is building for the eagerly anticipated PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, as organisers announce a special prize fund of over N2 million dedicated to the Student Race Category in this year’s event.
Scheduled for 6th December 2025, the student category aims to inspire young athletes across Nigeria to embrace long-distance running and contribute to the nation’s growing road-race culture. Competing students will have the opportunity to win significant cash prizes, structured as follows:1st Place: N1,000,000, 2nd Place: N500,000, 3rd Place: N300,000, 4th Place: N200,000 and 5th Place: N100,000
This initiative highlights the marathon’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, offering both motivation and financial encouragement to young runners.
Adding to the momentum, World Athletics has officially approved the second edition of the Abuja City International Half Marathon. This recognition further validates the event’s standards and growing reputation on the global stage, positioning it as one of Africa’s emerging elite road races, set to attract both local and international participants.
Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), commented on the significance of this year’s event, highlighting the economic and social impact of long-distance races in Nigeria. She stated, “Long-distance races have steadily become a source of economic growth for the nation. This year’s route has been carefully designed to allow residents and spectators to fully appreciate the brilliance and endurance of these runners.” Mrs. Olopade added that the marathon not only promotes healthy living and tourism but also stimulates business activity across the city.
