The original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association (KAGBADA) have concluded plans to confer the ‘Nigeria Infrastructure Minister of the Year’Award on the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, in recognition of his transformative projects in Abuja’s satellite towns.
The ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Jummai Aduda Townhall in Karu District, will also feature a public lecture on the forthcoming 2026 FCT elections, to be delivered by Nigeria’s former Ambassador to The Gambia, Ambassador Ayuba Jacob Ngbako.
The event will include scholarship awards and an empowerment scheme for residents.
In a press statement signed by its association’s secretary-general, Mr Peter Samuel Aye, KAGBADA praised Wike for initiating unprecedented infrastructure development in outer city districts.
“FCT indigenes had never witnessed huge infrastructure developments all at once in outer city districts and satellite towns like that currently being undertaken under the administration of the current minister and President Bola Tinubu.
“We want to honour FCT minister Nyesom Wike for the great infrastructure projects drawn to our community like the completed rehabilitation of the Nyanya-Karu-Jikwoyi-Karshi Highway which is currently easing traffic in Karu Chiefdom, the completed Kugbo Bus Termina and Kugbo International Market.
“The award of contracts for the reconstruction of Karu township roads, including the contract for the Karu Water Supply Project (Lot 2) which is a major FCT Administration initiative launched in August 2025 to expand clean water access in Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi, and nearby communities, involving laying 194km of pipes to provide potable water to hundreds of thousands of residents to reduce water borne diseases, boost public health, and support development,” he stated.
The statement also commended the minister for what it termed a hand of fellowship extended to their political leader, former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, and for the appointment of their son-in-law, Architect Richard Dauda, as Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
“Through your efforts, our son-in-law, Engr. Richard Dauda has also been appointed as the current Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA); and our elder brother and former lawmaker, Distinguished Senator Philip Aduda enjoys your goodwill and that of President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” he stated.
KAGBADA also expressed approval of the minister’s decision to terminate and re-award the long-stalled Apo-Karshi road contract, promising to constantly support the current FCT Administration.
However, the group appended a plea to the accolades, urging Wike to intervene in the lack of FCT indigenes in ambassadorial appointments.
“The people were already missing out on several federal appointments of recent including that of the appointments made into the board of the North Central Development Commission, NCDC,” the group appealed.
