The founder and convener of the academy, Engr. Jamiu Badmos, who spoke at the convocation, said it was essential to deepen the sub-sector through holistic training of workers in the industry, adding that graduating 600 students was a milestone in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Developing and deepening the Health and Safety Sector in the workplace and the nation is essential. As players in this industry, we cannot just talk and complain but work the talk, and this was what inspired the QHSES training and academy.

“Knowing full well that the government cannot do everything, and also enhance manpower.

This inspired me to formulate the world’s first teacher-free virtual academy- QHSES, which offers training in health and safety, project management, and enterprise development and is delivered by over 35 industry practitioners.

“Growing up in Mushin, I know what it takes to come from a poor home and not be able to afford certifications. Instead of only condemning the government, I asked myself: What value can I add? We aim to put smiles on people’s faces by creating opportunities,” he said.

The faculty lead noted that the academy graduated over 600 students from its 2025 Occupational Health and Safety training programme in Lagos, adding that out of the 600 graduating class students, 47 earned distinctions, while the top 10 students received cash prizes, solar bags, safety boots, and awards.

Jeremiah Mrakpor, who turned initial rejection into motivation, emerged as the best graduating student.

“I wasn’t admitted in the first batch because I scored 80% instead of 90%. But I decided to push harder when I got in with the second batch. From then on, I gave it my best, and God helped me,” he said.
