The Accord Party has called on its members to reject the divisive tactics employed by the Maxwell Mgbudem-led faction and rally behind leadership that is committed to rebuilding the party.
In a statement released by Comrade Lanre Ogundare, the national organizing secretary for the national chairman, the party said the recent expulsion of Prof. Chris Imumolen and 12 state chairmen from the Accord Party is troubling.
It said the actions of the Mgbudem-led faction, especially in the context of the unresolved legal dispute, are concerning, as they undermine the principles of internal democracy and fair play within the party.
“The allegations of anti-party activities leveled against Prof. Imumolen and his supporters are not only unfounded but also hypocritical.
“Those making these accusations, such as Hon. Ajaja, have been linked to the PDP in Oyo State, raising serious questions about their commitment to the Accord Party. How can individuals who have openly aligned themselves with a rival political party accuse Prof. Imumolen, whose dedication and sacrifices have elevated the party’s profile, of betraying the party?”
He said Imumolen represents a new era of transparent, inclusive, and strategic leadership-an approach that is in stark contrast to the factionalism and self-interest that currently threaten the party’s unity.
“The focus must be on addressing the issues at hand through lawful means and prioritizing the collective good of the party over personal ambitions.”
The Accord Party has the potential to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the political landscape, but only if its members remain united and focused on its long-term vision.”
The statement further said the Accord Party must rise above the internal squabbles that have dominated its recent history.
“The party’s credibility and reputation are at stake, and members must come together to resolve the leadership crisis through legal channels, upholding the rule of law and the party’s constitution.
“Chris Imumolen’s leadership offers hope for a reformed and progressive Accord Party, and his contributions to its growth cannot be dismissed lightly. As the court case progresses, it is essential that all parties within the Accord Party respect the legal process and work toward a resolution that strengthens the party and its values,” it added.
