Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kano State has expressed hope in the future of Nigerian youths in spite of the prevalence of delinquencies and other moral challenges.
The ACF stated this when it appreciated a young man, Salisu Awwalu, who found N15 million in his tricycle and returned it to the owner, a Chadian merchant who came to Kano for business.
Addressing newsmen at a press conference, the Kano chairman of ACF, Dr Gwani Umar Farouk, said the forum would, apart from donating N100,000 to him, also relate with him and use him as a practical example in public engagements.
Farouk said, “He is a tricycle driver whose parents could not even afford three square meals a day and this goes to show the significance of his returning the money.
“The character of our children today is abysmal, disgusting and annoying. But today we have somebody like him who despite the fact that his parents did not have means of livelihood, yet he has returned the money to the owner through the effort of Arewa Radio the station that broadcast the issue.
“Through what the station did, the public was able to come to know about the situation. That’s how the owners, who were not Nigerians, were identified.
“He is somebody who just left secondary school at the level of Junior Secondary, level 2. He has not even graduated.
“This is showing that in our community we have children who have the fear of Allah in their heart and who are exemplary to others. I would like him to perhaps briefly say what happened so that those who are not from this state will also appreciate his effort. A philanthropist, who does not want his name mentioned, has since purchased a new tricycle for Salisu and is going to pay for his education. The owners of the money were so impressed that they also gave him N400,000 reward for his honesty,” he said.
