Nollywood actress, Kanyin Eros is set to release a short video series, ‘The Secret Lives of Nigerian Women’, which is based on the untold stories of iconic and political women figures in Nigerian history.
The women are political and human rights activist, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti; Nigeria’s first gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa; first Nigerian female politician and pioneer of Nigerian women’s activism, Margret Ekpo; first black African Miss World winner, Agbani Darego; first Nigerian female mechanic, Sandra Aguebor Ekperuoh; and pioneer of modern pottery, Ladi Dosei.
Produced by Guguru media, a Lagos-based talent management and film production company, the short video series brings to the consciousness of Nigerians the history of great Nigerian females while also capturing Eros’s creative acumen.
With Chinazaekpere Chukwu as head writer, the series spotlights important fragments of the lives of the outstanding women.
Eros believes that narratives and commentaries often reflect the women and their struggles against patriarchy without centralizing their humanity.
The video series, thus, is Eros’s attempts to not only reiterate the bravery and defiance of these women but also humanize them. “As much as we commend their bravery, they are regular human beings who wanted change and goodness for the society, hence, the video series is my humble attempt to honor them,” Eros says.
“As a storyteller and actor, I’m excited and eager for people to know these women and have insightful conversations around them, and I’m hopeful that people will learn about these women and be moved to recommend other influential women who I can spotlight too,” Eros enthuses.
The first episode of the monologue series is available on Kanyin Eros’s Instagram page.
