American comedian and actress, Tiffany Haddish, has filed a formal motion to dismiss her long standing Driving Under the Influence (DUI) case in Georgia, citing a violation of her constitutional right to a speedy trial.

The motion, filed by her legal representatives, contends that the case has remained in a state of legal limbo for over four years since her initial arrest in January 2022. According to court documents, the defense argues that the judiciary’s failure to rule on key motions specifically a request to suppress evidence argued in May 2024 has caused an unconstitutional delay in the proceedings.

Haddish’s attorneys stated that they have declared their readiness for trial on approximately ten separate occasions over the past two years.

Despite these declarations, court officials reportedly informed the defense that they were still working on the pending rulings.

The defendant further alleged that the unresolved legal matter is causing significant professional and financial hardship.

Specifically, she noted that the pending charges have created obstacles in securing travel documents for international work engagements, including opportunities in Australia.

Additionally, the actress claimed that several corporate entities have shown reluctance to engage her services due to the lingering status of the case.

Haddish was originally apprehended in Peachtree City, Georgia, after law enforcement officers discovered her asleep in her vehicle.
