The Adamawa State Government, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health, is set to distribute 2.583M treated mosquito nets to over 1.150M residents across 226 wards in the state

The Chemopreventive (SMC) and Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITN) campaign in the state should last for three days.

Program Manager of the State Malaria Elimination Program, Benjamin Nashon, disclosed that the 2.583M treated mosquito nets will be distributed to over 1.150M residents across 226 political wards in the State.

Nashon announced that over 4.5 million antimalaria doses of medicine have also been procured for onward distribution for the prevention of children aged three to fifty-nine (3-59) months.

In her presentation, Ufuoma Agbache, SPC Advisor at the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, said that the National Malaria Elimination Program is solely a preventive measure against the disease, usually transmitted by female mosquitoes through bites, and is intended for children aged 3 to 59 months.

Agbache explained that when rainfall is high, especially during the rainy season (four to five months), health experts and partners such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommend activating a malaria prevention strategy, which, according to her, is a killer disease.

“WHO has recommended the Seasonal Malaria Campaign(SMC) due to its effectiveness and efficiency for the health of our children from 3 to 59 months.” She emphasised
