A governorship aspirant in Adamawa State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulrazzak Sa’ad Namdas, has said there will be no imposition of candidates in the party.

Namdas, a former spokesperson of the House of Representatives, stated this while addressing journalists after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said they had received assurances from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri that there would be no imposition in the party.

“There is no issue of imposition as far as I am concerned. The leaders of the party at the national level—the President, the national chairman, and the governor—have assured us that there will be no imposition.

“I have no cause to fear. We are politicians and have presented ourselves to the public, which is why we were elected in the past. I can tell you that in Adamawa State, there will be no imposition.

“Our leaders will give us the opportunity to contest. If we are called for consensus, that does not mean we will not participate in the process. If we agree among ourselves, fine. If we do not agree, we go for a contest.

“As a politician, contesting is more important than relying on agreement. If there is no agreement, we proceed to contest. We are prepared. When I first ran for governorship, I learned from the experience, which is why I am contesting again.

“With a level playing ground, as our party leaders have said, politicians should test their popularity. If you win, fine. If you lose, that is also part of politics.

“We will begin our campaign, go through screening, and once cleared, proceed to contest,” he said.
