Adamawa UNICEF Hold Orientation To Boost Immunisation

The Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund has conducted a one-day orientation programme aimed at strengthening immunisation and essential health services in selected priority local government areas (LGAs).

The orientation, organised for state and LGA officials of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency and development partners, was held under the theme: “Partnership on Maintaining and Strengthening Immunisation and Essential Services in Priority LGAs of Adamawa State.”

Declaring the event open, the Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, Chief Felix Tangwami, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Zira Mathias Bubanani, stressed the importance of commitment and strategic planning in improving immunisation coverage. He reaffirmed that the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri remains committed to strengthening the health sector.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr. Sulaiman Saidu Bashir, described UNICEF’s support as commendable and called for sustained collaboration. He charged frontline health workers to intensify efforts in implementing immunisation activities effectively, while appreciating partners for their contributions toward achieving the agency’s goals.

Also speaking, the UNICEF Chief of Field Office in Bauchi, Nuzhat Rafique, commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for zero-dose immunisation initiatives.

Fintiri Receives Turkish Ambassador, Reaffirms Commitment to Education, Youth Development Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in education and youth development as a strategy to curb insecurity and drive sustainable growth in Adamawa State.

Fintiri made this known while receiving the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, at the Government House in Yola. He expressed appreciation to the Turkish government for its support to internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly through the provision of food and non-food items, as well as its partnership in the education sector.

The governor disclosed that over 100 students from Adamawa State are currently studying in Turkey and performing well academically. He added that the state government plans to sponsor more students and expand opportunities for young people through education and skills acquisition programmes.

Fintiri also highlighted the establishment of a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the state, aimed at equipping youths with practical, job-ready skills. He called for deeper collaboration with Turkey to strengthen skill acquisition centres and broaden development opportunities.

In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling insecurity and assisting displaced populations. He revealed that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency is planning to establish an office in Abuja to enhance development cooperation and improve vocational training programmes across the country.

 

The ambassador further disclosed that he visited the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons camp, where he participated in the distribution of food relief items to vulnerable families.
