ADC Claims 70% Nigerians Have Rejected Tinubu, Cites 30% Approval Rating Survey

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described President Bola Tinubu’s 30 percent approval rating after three years in office as evidence that Nigerians have rejected his administration over worsening economic hardship, unemployment, and insecurity.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the latest survey showing that nearly 70 percent of Nigerians are dissatisfied with the direction of the country reflects the harsh realities facing citizens daily.

According to the ADC, the approval rating released by Eagle Badger Data Analytics (EBDA) showed that only 30.2 percent of Nigerians approve of President Tinubu’s performance, while 47.5 percent disapprove. The party noted that a majority of respondents also admitted that their living conditions had worsened since the administration came into office in May 2023.

“The significance of this report is clear. A President with only 30 percent approval after three years in office has lost the confidence of the Nigerian people,” the statement read.

“More importantly, it means that roughly seven out of every ten Nigerians are either dissatisfied, unconvinced, or unwilling to endorse the direction in which the country is being led. That is not a political challenge. That is a national rejection.”

The opposition party said the findings of the survey aligned with the economic realities confronting millions of Nigerians, including soaring food prices, rising transport costs, unemployment, and business closures.

According to the ADC, 62 percent of Nigerians surveyed said they are worse off today than they were when Tinubu assumed office, while only 23.3 percent reported any improvement in their standard of living.

The party further stated that about 42.4 percent of respondents described themselves as “much worse off” compared to their situation three years ago.

“These numbers confirm what Nigerians experience every day. Families can no longer afford basic food items. Transportation costs have become unbearable. Small businesses are shutting down. Young people are facing rising unemployment and diminishing opportunities,” the statement added.

The ADC also cited figures from the report indicating that food prices had increased by more than 90 percent since May 2023, while the overall price level had risen by roughly 80 percent.

“The government continues to celebrate macroeconomic statistics, but Nigerians do not eat statistics. They eat food. They pay rent. They pay school fees. They pay transport fares. They confront insecurity. And on all these measures, life has become significantly harder under this administration,” the party stated.

On insecurity, the ADC accused the Federal Government of failing to adequately protect lives and property, noting that many communities across the country remain under threat from bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminal elements.

“Across large parts of the country, farmers remain unable to safely access their farmlands. Communities continue to face attacks from bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and criminal gangs,” the statement said.

The party argued that after three years in office, the Tinubu administration could no longer blame previous governments for the country’s challenges.

“The responsibility now belongs entirely to President Tinubu and his administration. Leadership is measured by outcomes, not excuses,” it stated.

The ADC maintained that the survey should serve as a warning sign to the government ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Nigerians are demanding a leadership focused on economic recovery, security, job creation, and accountability.

“The Nigerian people are speaking clearly. The numbers do not lie. Thirty percent approval after three years in office is not a sign of success. It is a measure of failure,” the party declared.

The opposition party also reaffirmed its commitment to providing Nigerians with what it described as a credible alternative built on competence, accountability, economic recovery, and the restoration of national security.
