Governorship aspirant Ishaya Inuwa Durkwa in Adamawa State has rejected the outcome of the governorship selection process conducted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

Inuwa alleged that no valid primary election was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and the Electoral Act.

He said his movement joined the ADC based on its promises of fairness, inclusion, and democratic principles.

According to him, his camp was prepared to participate in either a consensus arrangement or a direct primary election, but maintained that no agreement on consensus was reached, making direct primaries the only lawful option for selecting the party’s governorship candidate.

Durkwa alleged that the guidelines for the conduct of direct primaries, as provided by the party and the Electoral Act, were ignored, insisting that no direct primary election was conducted.

Describing the development as a violation of due process and democratic principles, the governorship aspirant said such practices should not be normalised in politics.

He, however, stated that the matter would be challenged in court, stressing that the legal action was necessary to defend justice, due process, and democratic accountability.

“Losing an election would never have been a problem for me. Democracy allows for victory and defeat. But the painful truth is this: there was no election,” Durkwa stated.

He further expressed concern over the impact of political manipulation on young people, warning that repeated disregard for due process could weaken public confidence in democracy.

Despite the development, Durkwa urged supporters not to lose hope, assuring them that the “People First Project” remains alive and committed to justice, competence, and service to humanity.
