A support group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN), has called on the judiciary to uphold independence and impartiality ahead of a pending case involving the party and Nafiu Bala.

Addressing journalists on Saturday in Abuja, the group’s spokesperson, Peter Emeka, said the court’s handling of the matter would attract public attention and urged all parties to respect legal processes.

According to him, the judiciary plays a critical role in sustaining democratic institutions and should continue to operate without external influence.
“We believe the courts should remain guided strictly by the law and the principles of justice,” Emeka said.

He urged Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court to approach the matter with fairness and independence, noting that judicial decisions often carry wider public interest.

Emeka also referenced past legal and political developments in Nigeria, saying court decisions have historically shaped public confidence in democratic institutions.

Speaking on the legal issues surrounding the case, he argued that questions relating to party administration and internal disputes have been addressed in previous judicial decisions and expressed hope that existing legal precedents would be considered.

He further stated that the proceedings would be closely observed by stakeholders, including members of the legal profession and civil society groups.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nafiu Bala have been involved in a leadership dispute, with legal actions filed in different courts. The matter before the FCT High Court is expected to come up for hearing soon.
