A pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group, Southern Political Council (SPC), has asked governors elected on the party’s platform to develop a plan to solve hunger and poverty in their states.
The group, in a statement by its national chairman, Chief Anene Azubuike and national secretary, Barr. Charles Menkiti also challenged the PDP Governors Forum to visit Lagos State and replicate its railway system in their states.
According to the statement, the group said, “The governors should develop a defined protocol to resolve the acute hunger and poverty in the land, especially starting with PDP states. Nigeria has a large population and large arable farmlands and willing farmers.
“But the Bandits,”religious” criminals, local ‘unknown’ gunmen have made our farms unsafe and made farming a suicide mission. Because our political leaders mostly chose to exercise excuses and alibis,
instead of responsibilities to bring these enemies of the state to terms with exacting consequences for their criminal acts,” it added.
Charging the governors to adopt the Lagos railway system, SPC said, “The PDP Governors Forum should visit Lagos state and study how it developed its Red and Blue lines Railways through funds and technical partnerships across its Districts that now efficiently connect Lagos people and residents to their economic and social interests at affordable costs. And adopt the same in PDP states.”
The group however declared its support for Amb. Illiya Damagum as PDP acting national chairman just as they urged unity among members.
“As a major opposition party and a government in waiting, by providing alternative better policies for governments, and checkmating President Tinubu’s administration,
And by supporting the Amb. Illiya Damagum’s chairmanship of PDP to serve out the term.
“Amb. Illiya Damagum has all our collective support in his vision driven leadership as acting PDP national chairman. It’s time to substantiate him as national chairman,” they said.
