Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has called on the Federal Government to adopt a more responsive and compassionate security policy in the wake of recent attacks in Angwa Rukuba, Plateau State.

Adebayo made the call during a condolence visit to Angwa Rukuba in Plateau State, where he commiserated with families affected by the attacks.

He described the incident as a painful reminder of Nigeria’s security challenges, saying that criminal elements had disrupted the peace of the community.

“The people of this community are saddened and battered, but they will not leave this land,” Adebayo said, emphasising that the community’s diversity and resilience were key to Nigeria’s unity.

He condemned the attacks, describing it as “craftiness of the devil,” and insisted that the government must take a more responsible approach to security.

Adedayo emphasised the need to strengthened law enforcement, backed by adequate intelligence, logistics, and community cooperation.

The former presidential candidate urged President Bola Tinubu to use the incident as a turning point for improving national security coordination, saying that governments elsewhere were more vigilant and committed to protecting citizens.

Adebayo also called on Plateau State authorities to work with the Federal Government to ensure effective security cooperation, particularly in the Middle Belt, which he described as “the glue holding Nigeria together.”

Also, the District Head of Angwa Rukuba, Haruna Bala, lamented the inadequate security presence in the area, saying that the attackers had operated freely without resistance. He appealed to security authorities to strengthen police presence in the community.

Bala described Angwa Rukuba as a uniquely diverse community where Nigerians from different ethnic backgrounds coexisted peacefully, and stressed that improved policing would help prevent future attacks.
