A member of the House of Representatives representing Amuwo-Odofin federal constituency of Lagos State, Hon. George Adegeye, has given 683 bags of rice, vegetable oil, and other cooking ingredients for faithful members of his Labour Party (LP) and his constituents, to celebrate Christmas.

Adegeye has been described by members of his constituents as a man whose kind gestures have become a reference point in the State.

According to him, his decision to give Christmas gifts to members of his constituents was to help alleviate the suffering of many, who could not afford to feed themselves, given the current economic situation.

Adegeye, fondly called ‘OMOGEYE’, said the items given were a way to give back to his constituents who gave him the mandate willingly to represent them at the House of Representatives.

“It is my own little way of giving back to my community, it is the festive period and this is just a way to give back to the people.

“A bag of rice is now 57,000 Naira in the market and the one distributed here is an imported rice, 683 bags in all. The country is hard, everyone knows that, people are hungry so we need to find one way or the other to cater for their needs.”

Adegeye, however, appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to give to the less-privileged in order to make this Yuletide a memorable one for all.

“In our own little way, we need to live in peace with one another. Honestly, the country is in a mess, so let alone the inflation rate, we should find a way to play our own role in giving succour to people, I wish them merry Christmas and happy new year in advance, we need peace, unity and love,” Adegeye said.

Some of those who benefited from the lawmaker’s Christmas gifts were members of executive council of Labour Party in Amuwo Odofin, party leaders in the constituency, youth and women leaders, the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo group heads, executives of Catholic Youths Organization of Nigeria, Anglican, Arewa group, and men of the Nigeria Police Force in the Divisions.

Appreciating the lawmaker’s gesture, the chairman, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Amuwo-Odofin, Chief Lawrence Chikwado Eze Unara, and that of Oriade Nze Edwin Ezioku, noted that they’ve never had it so good in Amuwo-Odofin just as they pledged their unflinching support for Adegeye.

The Public Relations Officer of the Catholic Youths Organization of Nigeria, Mr. Victor Okwudili, spoke about how the lawmaker had been supporting most of the church programmes, just as he described him as a good example of youth in public office that never let his constituents down.
