Adeleke Orders Investigation Into Burning Of Osun High Court Building

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered a full-scale investigation into the burning of the Ilesa High Court 2 building by yet to be identified criminals, describing it as a threat to democracy and an unjustifiable attack on the state’s judiciary.

Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident and beefed up security across all court premises in the state.

The incident which happened overnight led to the destruction of court-sensitive documents and exhibits, with the entire building burned to the ground.

In the statement, the governor said that the state fire service was mobilised to the scene, but the havoc was already over by their arrival. He added that reports indicated that files relating to sensitive court cases were destroyed.

Governor Adeleke, who urged support rather than attack on the judiciary, said the arm of government remains the stabiliser and critical arbiter of the democratic process.

His words: “The security agencies must conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face the consequences of their actions. I further direct security agencies to beef up surveillance across the various court buildings.

Governor Adeleke ordered the state attorney general and commissioner for justice to join hands with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to rehabilitate the building razed by fire immediately.
