Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reiterated his commitment to local government autonomy in the state.
He dropped the hint during the ongoing ministerial briefing ,organised to interface with all ministries, departments and agencies of government on how to move the state to greater heights.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi stressed the need for local government adding that the third tier of government is the grassroot government through which the people get the dividends of democracy.
His words, “Granting autonomy to local government is in total accord with the principles of federalism”.
He observed that over the years, the political class has crippled the entire gamut of local government administration thereby rendering it inconsequential, thus making it anti- progressive.
Earlier, the coordinating director, Local Government Service Commission, Mr Lekan Babalola, had appreciated the governor for yielding to the yearnings of the people of the state through his readiness to grant autonomy to the grassroots government.
He posited that the step would accelerate development in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
