Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has signed three major bills into law to strengthen the state’s technology ecosystem, power sector and real estate industry.
Adeleke, who signed the bills during the maiden edition of the Osun Tech Hangout in Osogbo, noted that his administration has matched infrastructural development with expansion of the digital economy, environmental sustainability, and energy diversification.
Speaking on the bills, Adeleke said the Electricity Market bill is a step towards subnational management and expansion of the power sector, adding that the Ministry of Energy has been directed to set up an implementation mechanism as quickly as possible.
On the Energy bill, he noted that it is meant to expand the energy mix to liberalise access to power and open the sector to private investment and also provide a platform for the regulation of the energy sector.
Adeleke said the Nigerian Startup Act would provide a legal framework for the empowerment of Tech entrepreneurs within Osun state, adding that the implementation will commence in earnest.
The special adviser to the governor on Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy, Hon. Azeez Badmus, disclosed that targeted ICT training and skills development programs are preparing the next generation to succeed in a technology-driven economy.
He noted that efforts to expand digital connectivity and create supportive innovation spaces are fostering collaboration, creativity, and growth across the state.
