In response to the incident, the governor also dispatched a high-level government delegation to the affected area and ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday, said Governor Adeleke received a preliminary report on the killings from his special adviser on Security Matters and expressed deep shock over the tragic loss of lives.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for comfort from God Almighty.

“After receiving the preliminary report, further briefings were presented to the deputy governor by the security team. A State Security Council meeting has now been scheduled for Monday to further deliberate on this issue and other emerging security threats in the state,” the statement read.
Governor Adeleke pledged to uncover the root causes of the incident and directed that a high-powered delegation, comprising top government officials and service chiefs, visit the Akinlalu community following Monday’s security meeting.

The delegation is expected to include the special adviser on Security Matters,
the commissioner for Information, commissioner for Political Affairs, the commissioner for Transportation, the Attorney General of the State, the special adviser on legal matters and heads of relevant security agencies

“I am a rule-of-law governor. This matter is under investigation, and any infractions will be addressed within the framework of the law,” Adeleke said.

He further noted that the council meeting would also address wider security concerns, including fears of a possible spillover of banditry from neighbouring Kwara State.

“I send my heartfelt condolences to the victims of this unfortunate incident. I urge the good people of Akinlalu to remain calm while our government acts swiftly and decisively. I feel their pain, but investigations are ongoing,” the statement added.
