Accord Party chairman in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande, has expressed optimism that Governor Ademola Adeleke will convincingly win the forthcoming gubernatorial election on the party’s platform on August 8, 2026.
Akande, who spoke during a feature on the Osun State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) personality interview programme, tagged ‘News Point’, in Osogbo on Thursday, insisted that the Osun electorate had long rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to alleged maladministration while in governance in the state.
He accused the leading opposition party of insensitivity to the plight of the people and, furthermore, brought hardship to them through its inhumane treatment of the state workforce and failure to deliver the dividends of democracy while in power.
His words: “The candidate of APC, with due respect, is not a threat at all to our candidate. We know what that party stood for in this state; we know what we experienced when they were ruling in this state. People rejected them completely because of the suffering and untold hardship they inflicted on the people of Osun State.
“It is a fact and a history that when they were ruling in this state, the Issue of half salary caused hardship to workers, while death harvested pensioners because they were unable to buy drugs because their entitlements were not paid, and the cooperative they were in, the government of that time had squandered that money. There were abandoned projects.
“It is known that the people of Osun State don’t want APC again, they have been rejected, this was evident in 2022 election, I know by the grace of God, by August 2026 they will hear it clearly that APC has become a persona non grata as far as Osun State is concerned, so the work of Mr Governor will speak for him, because he has done well beyond expectations as far as Osun State is concerned”.
Akande stated that they have commenced public enlightenment, particularly at the grassroots, to create awareness that Governor Adeleke is now a member and candidate of the Accord Party.
“We want the public to know that Governor Adeleke is now a member of the Accord party so that they may vote. We need to educate people and enlighten them concerning our party on the ballot system, because of our aged mothers and fathers, especially those from rural places, “ Akande posited.
