As the fourth Ajayi Elebire Elites Basketball Camp at the Ekiti State Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti reaches Day 4 today, July 16, anticipation is mounting among participants. Many players are eagerly vying for one of the final ten scholarship slots promised by the organisers to the over fifty players in attendance.
Olalekan Ajayi, the founder of the foundation, noted that several players have caught the attention of the coaches, with approximately six already identified as top talents.
“Basketball is quite different from football; we have been observing players since Day 1 of the camp,” he explained. “While some may emerge on the final day, the coaches already have a good understanding of the standout talents present, and I am pleased with what we have accomplished.”
Ajayi expressed confidence in the experiences gained by all participants, regardless of who makes the final cut.
“I’m sure the others will be grateful for what they have learned here at the camp.
In addition to bringing in top coaches, we have also ensured they are well-fed three times a day and provided with new kit, with many players going home with new shoes. I am delighted with the impact of the AEE Basketball Camp.”
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State government showed its support through a visit from the Technical Adviser on Sports, Dr Olusola Osetoba, who attended the players’ training session on Monday evening. She delivered a goodwill message from the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who had expressed his desire to attend but was unable to due to travel commitments following the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in the UK.
