The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has issued a warning to farmers and the general public to beware of a fraudulent scheme that is targeting them.
According to a statement signed by AFAN assistant public relations officer, Salisu Mukhtar, some unscrupulous people are asking farmers to pay N2,000 into a particular bank account while claiming to be AFAN and working in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD).

However, the statement said that this is a false claim, as the FMARD has been renamed and has no such partnership with AFAN.
The association also said that the fraudsters are using the names of two government programmes, the National Agricultural Growth Strategy and Action Plan (NAGS-AP) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), to lure unsuspecting farmers.

AFAN urged all farmers and the general public to be vigilant and not to enter into any dealings with anyone claiming to take any money from them for registration to obtain any input supply or activity under NAGS-AP or FMAFS.

The statement reads, “The Nigerian Farmers and the general public are hereby warned that there are some unscrupulous people seeking to defraud farmers by asking them to pay the sum of N2,000 into a Wema Bank account number: 8270014608 purportedly belonging to AFAN.”
