In a thrilling 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Last 16 clash, Senegal emerged victorious against Sudan with a score of 3-1, propelled by a stellar performance from Pape Gueye, who scored twice.

Sudan took an early lead in the match, with Aamir Abdallah finding the back of the net in the sixth minute after a swift counterattack, stunning the Senegalese side. However, Senegal responded emphatically, with Gueye equalising in the 29th minute with a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box, assisted by Sadio Mané.

As the first half drew to a close, Gueye struck again in stoppage time (45’+3), delivering a precise shot to the top left corner to put Senegal ahead 2-1. The goal showcased Gueye’s prowess, and the Senegalese squad headed into halftime with momentum.

The second half saw Senegal maintain control, and in the 77th minute, Ibrahim Mbaye extended their lead to 3-1, capitalizing on a fast break and delivering a well-placed shot after receiving a pass from Mané.

Despite Sudan’s attempts to claw back into the game, including a series of missed opportunities, Senegal’s defense held firm. Sudan’s Mohamed Eisa and Sheddy Barglan both had chances but were unable to convert.
