Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday elected Jerry Afemikhe as its candidate for the Surulere Federal Constituency 1, bye-election which comes up February 3, 2024.
The bye-election is to fill the seat vacated by former Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajamiala, who is now serving as the chief of staff (CoS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Afemikhe popularly called “Olori Odo” emerged victorious in the primary after polling 17 votes out of 18 votes cast by the accredited ad-hoc delegates.
The primary that was conducted in a free and fair manner was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) led by Mohammed Mainasara Ahmed just as men the Nigeria Police Force were on ground to provide security.
Members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party led by the state secretary, Hon. Soji Orioye, were also present at the primary.
Afemikhe will be contesting against the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fuad Laguda and Labour Party (LP’s) Adeola Adebanjo, among others.
After his victory, Afemikhe expressed his strong commitment to serve the communities in the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 diligently, saying that he would deploy his experience to offer dynamic leadership to address the challenges of the Constituency.
