At least 17 persons lost their lives and 34 others were injured in a tragic accident on Tuesday, when a bus overturned on a highway linking the capital Kabul to the northern regions of Afghanistan.

The incident was confirmed by Mustafa Hashemi, the director of information and culture of Baghlan province.

The victims of the accident included 12 men, two women, and three children, highlighting the severe impact on families and the local community. The crash underscored the perilous state of Afghanistan’s roadways, which suffered from decades of neglect and conflict.

Traffic accidents are a frequent occurrence in Afghanistan, attributed to poor road conditions, reckless driving, and inadequate regulatory measures.

LEADERSHIP reports that the latest incident followed a similar tragic event in March when 21 people were killed and 38 injured in Helmand province after a bus collided with an oil tanker and a motorbike.
