The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa congratulated Nigeria’s hurdles champion, Oluwatobi Amusan for her remarkable achievement in securing a silver medal in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Amusan, the current world record holder, finished the final with an impressive time of 12.29 seconds, placing second behind her familiar rival, Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland, who clinched the gold with a time of 12.24 seconds.
Describing Amusan as a source of national pride, Okowa affirmed that the Federation will continue to provide unwavering support to Nigerian athletes in their pursuit of excellence.
He remarked that this achievement stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Nigerians.
“I am particularly delighted for Tobi Amusan. She embodies the aspirations of Nigerians on the global stage as a leading athlete. Her discipline and performance against her competitors were truly remarkable, showcasing her status as the reigning champion,” Okowa said.
Okowa also highlighted Amusan’s previous accomplishments, noting that she set the world record in the 100 metres hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds during the semi-finals at the Oregon 2022 Championships, where she ultimately secured gold in the final.
This latest performance further reinforces Amusan’s standing among the world’s elite athletes.
