Africa Games: Team Nigeria’s Umuofia Wins 3 Gold In Weightlifting

Team Nigeria’s medal haul at the ongoing 13th All Africa Games in Ghana continued yesterday with Edidiong Umoafia winning three gold medals in weightlifting.

Making his debut in the 67kg men category, Umoafia clinched all the three gold medals at stake in snatch, clean & jerk and total.

He lifted 135kg in snatch and 165kg in clean and jerk to record a total of 300kg which secured the three gold medals for Team Nigeria.

His feat has scaled Nigeria’s weightlifting medal haul to eight after King Kalu (two bronze medal and Favour (two silver and a bronze medals) set the ball rolling on Sunday.

More medals are expected from the weightlifting event which enters Day 3 at the University of Ghana, Legon.
