The African Democratic Congress (ADC) yesterday in Abuja presented a Certificate of Return to Ambassador Oluwadare Patrick Bajide as its flag bearer for the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
Performing the ceremony on behalf of the National Chairman, Senator David Mark, the Deputy National Chairman, Babachir Lawal, North East, said Bajide’s emergence signaled the party’s commitment to “rescuing Ekiti from decay, infrastructural deficit, and deepening poverty.”
Lawal urged other aspirants and party stakeholders in the state to close ranks and work collectively for victory.
“We are charging all stakeholders to join hands as a united team. This mandate is for the total liberation of Ekiti State,” he said.
Speaking shortly after receiving his certificate, Ambassador Bajide expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in him, noting that he was delighted to be the first governorship candidate unveiled shortly after the party inaugurated its new national office in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I will be the first ADC governor after the June 20 election in Ekiti State. I am confident of victory because ADC in Ekiti is a family committed to the realization of a free Ekiti State,” he said.
Bajide vowed to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, insisting that Ekiti was in dire need of good governance.
“Our people are yearning for change, especially in infrastructure and other socio-economic areas,” he added.
“If you are coming from Kwara State, the moment you enter Ekiti State, you begin to face the ordeal of bad roads. If you are coming from Ondo State, it is the same story. So the people are looking for somebody who will salvage the situation,” he lamented.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Canada also promised that, if elected, his administration would prioritize the welfare of civil servants by providing adequate tools and incentives to enhance productivity.
He further pledged to revive the state’s agricultural sector, describing it as Ekiti’s traditional economic backbone.
“Agriculture is our mainstay in Ekiti State. If given the mandate, I will revive the sector to ensure it becomes a viable export source and significantly boosts food production,” he said.
