The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) officially announced the appointment of former Super Eagles striker, Samson Siasia, as its Ambassador.
The unveiling ceremony held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, drawing a notable attendance of prominent sports administrators and stakeholders.
Mustapha Michael, the Council’s Secretary General, addressed the gathering, characterising Siasia’s appointment as a universally embraced decision that garnered no dissent from the organisation’s members. Michael expressed confidence that with the former U-20 and U-23 national team coach now on board, the Council is poised to swiftly advance its initiatives.
In his acceptance speech, Siasia, affectionately known to his fans as a “World Cup coach,” conveyed his gratitude to the African Union Sports Council for the esteemed honour.
He committed to collaborating closely with stakeholders to propel the AUSC Region 2 West Africa forward. The former Super Eagles coach remarked that this new role offers him a timely opportunity to re-establish his presence in active football engagement after a period away from the sport.
