The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) has officially endorsed the Delta Senators U19 Unifier Cup, a youth football tournament designed to unearth and nurture promising young talent at a grassroots level.
A pivotal meeting took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, where senior AUSC officials were formally introduced as supporters of the competition.
Chaired by Ambassador Onoriode Omagufi, the meeting saw the unveiling of Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha, Secretary General of the AUSC, and Mr. Abdoul-Rafiou Assoumanou, Senior Sports Officer. Discussions centred on enhancing cooperation between the AUSC and the tournament organisers to create pathways for young Nigerian footballers to be scouted by international clubs.
The AUSC delegation will attend the entire 10-day tournament in Delta State, offering institutional backing and observing the event as part of their dedication to youth sports development across Africa.
Ambassador Omagufi highlighted that the tournament transcends mere competition, focusing equally on youth empowerment, fostering unity, and forging international opportunities for Nigeria’s young talents.
AUSC officials lauded the initiative, affirming their commitment to supporting programmes that advance grassroots football and sports development continent-wide.
The meeting concluded positively, with a mutual pledge to ensure the success of the Delta Senators U19 Unifier Cup and to continue championing youth development through sport.
