Businessman and Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that the future of Africa lies in smart partnerships, technology transfer and investments that improve lives, support industry and position the people for the opportunities of the global energy transition.
Kalu disclosed this following the signing of New Energy Industry Framework Cooperation Agreement between Swiber Africa and GCL Group of China, an ‘important milestone’ in his firm’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s energy future and deepen practical cooperation with global partners.
Taking to his verified Facebook page on Wednesday, the former Abia State governor wrote: “On 25 January in Dubai, I had the privilege of signing a New Energy Industry Framework Cooperation Agreement between Swiber Africa and GCL Group of China. This partnership is focused on delivering real, long-term solutions to Nigeria’s power challenges through modern gas-fired plants, renewable energy projects, grid upgrades and intelligent energy management systems aligned with the Presidential Power Initiative.
“Beyond power, this cooperation places strong emphasis on lithium development. Nigeria is richly endowed with lithium resources, and our shared goal is to move beyond raw extraction to local processing, value addition, job creation and global exports. Plans to develop a lithium carbonate smelting facility in Abia State are a clear step in that direction.
“This agreement reflects my firm belief that Africa’s future lies in smart partnerships, technology transfer and investments that improve lives, support industry and position our people for the opportunities of the global energy transition.”
