The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 14 suspected vandals and scavengers.

The FCT Commandant, Mr. Olusola Odumosu, who paraded the suspects at the command headquarters,  said tougher times await vandals and scavengers as he re-emphasised his readiness to hunt down anyone bent on making the nation’s capital a den of miscreants.

The suspects include Muhammed Isa, 18, from Kano, Elvis Obingwa,45, from Abia, Eze Godwin, 39, from Enugu, Basiru Abubakar, 23, Abdallah Zakariya, 40, from Yobe, Hungano Dimas, 27, from Adamawa, Aliyu Mohammed, 52, from Niger, Basiru Abdullah, 20, from Nasarawa, and Kabiru Usenu, 19, from Katsina.

Others are Godwin Isaac, 24, from Edo, Sunday Yusuf, 28, from Kaduna, Lawal Badiru, 25, from Kwara, Yusuf Nuts, 18, from Kano and Hamsa Ibrahim, 20, from Jigawa State.

Odumosu said they were arrested by officers of the corps who were on routine night patrol at different locations in the FCT, where they were also constituting nuisance under bridges and around critical installations at odd hours without any clearly defined purpose or destination.

While vowing to be resolute in combating crime and criminalities in the FCT, he called on residents to remain vigilant and be supportive of the efforts of the NSCDC FCT Command in ensuring a safe, peaceful and pleasant place for all to live.

“Let it be known to criminals, scavengers and vandals in the city center and the suburbs of FCT that their days are numbered, and we are coming for you. FCT will be too hot for you to stay, therefore, I advise you to relocate or face the wrath of the law.

“The arrested suspects have been thoroughly interrogated and profiled. They will be handed over to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board AEPB for further prosecution,” he said.

In another development, the Commandant General’s Intelligence Squad of the NSCDC on Wednesday shut down an illegal and unregistered manufacturing company which specialised in the massive production of fake Automated Transmission Fluid (ATF) and other lubricants at Ponpola village, Ido LGA of Oyo State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the corps’ director of public relations, Afolabi Babawale. He said one suspect, Adegoke Sunday, 41, was arrested while efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices who are now at large.

The NSCDC has also warned job seekers to be wary of fake and invalid  employment  letters in circulation purportedly issued  to unsuspecting applicants on their behalf  by  fraudsters and scammers.

The warning was contained in a statement  yesterday in Abuja.

It alerted Nigerians  on the fake letters of invitation  for screening and employment which he said  had been widely circulated and warned the public to take caution in order not to fall victim of what he termed “broad day light robbery”.

He said, “The corps had been inundated with complaints from victims who had parted with their hard earned money ranging from N250,000 to N500, 000 before realising  they were issued  fake letters.

These unsuspecting job seekers only realised they were duped after they got  the national headquarters  for documentation and found out that they were scammed.

He said, “The Commandant- General of the NSCDC, Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi,  would like to alert the public about the fake and malicious employment letters and to state categorically and unequivocally  that the misleading and criminal employment letters did not emanate from the NSCDC neither  from the Fire, Immigration and Correctional Service Board.

“The act  is purely  the handiwork of yet to be identified and faceless criminally-minded individuals who are taking undue advantage of the desperation of  job seekers in the country.”

He  further stated that the NSCDC boss had ordered nationwide manhunt of members of the syndicate behind the letters and the efforts were  already yielding positive results.
