In the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested another member of a notorious car theft syndicate and recovered another stolen vehicle.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the syndicate was busted a couple of days ago. Three suspects linked to cases of stolen vehicles were seized and detained for further interogation along with others at the State headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, near Uyo, the state capital.

The police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP TImfon John, who disclosed this yesterday, explained that the arrest became successful due to diligent intelligence follow – up.

She said, “Further to a previous report on August 6, 2025, detailing the arrest of a syndicate, operatives of the command have continued their efforts to recover more stolen vehicles.

“On August 13, 2025, at 1600 hours, the police action led to the arrest of Otoabasi George Ime, a suspect found in possession of a Toyota Camry with registration number BGM 934 DA.

“This vehicle has been confirmed as one of the stolen cars connected to the previously apprehended syndicate.

The Command is intensifying its efforts to recover the remaining stolen vehicles,” she assured.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, who reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents’ lives and properties, vowed that no stone would be left unturned in fishing out and subjecting other criminal elements to the law.

Therefore, she enjoined citizens to be security-conscious and report suspicious characters in their neighbourhoods for quick intervention.
