Yobe State has once again distinguished itself by emerging as the Best Performing State in the implementation of the Community-Based Health Workers Scheme (CBHWS) for Primary Health Care in Nigeria while Ogun State won the second position.

In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Kundi Machina said the recognition was announced by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) at the ongoing Quarterly Review Meeting with Executive Secretaries of State Primary Health Care Boards, held in Abuja. The CBHWS is a flagship initiative of the NPHCDA aimed at accelerating access to quality health services beyond Primary Health Care facilities by taking healthcare delivery directly to communities across the country.

It will be recalled that on July 30, 2025, the Yobe State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN (Chiroman Gujba), approved the absorption of 110 midwives, 54 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), and 258 Community-Based Health Workers (CBHWs) engaged under the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) in Bade, Bursari, Jakusko, Nangere, and Yusufari local government areas.

This bold step further strengthened the state’s primary healthcare delivery system, consolidating Yobe’s position as a trailblazer in innovative health reforms.
