Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency has assured that the 2025 Health Week programme in the state is adequately structured to succeed.
Executive secretary of the agency, Kalu Ulu-Kalu disclosed this to LEADERSHIP Friday in an interview in Umuahia, the state capital as batch “A” of the programme kicked off on Monday.
According to him: “The 2025 maternal, newborn, and child health week batch ‘A’ has commenced across the 292 primary heath wards in the state at no financial cost.”
Ulu-Kalu said the programme, in collaboration with the office of the wife of the governor and other international development partners will offer comprehensive health support to the beneficiaries.
He added that the programme includes routine immunisation vaccine against preventable diseases of children within prescribed age, vitamin A supplementation, deworming, and antenatal care among others.
Similarly, the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has donated food items, toiletries, and cash to Uzuakoli Motherless Babies Home in Bende local government area.
Handing over the donations, the general manager of the ASOPADEC, Joshua Onyeike reiterated the commitment of the ASOPADEC to impact positively on the lives of the less privileged in the state.
Represented by the director of social welfare, Amarachi Isaac-Nwachukwu, she urged the managers of the home to continue in their sacrifices of providing protection and succour for the children.
“On our part, this is part of our policies to touch the lives of the less privileged positively by giving them a sense of belonging and improving their wellbeing,” she noted.
In a response, the matron of the home, Mary Opara, expressed gratitude to the ASOPADEC and the state government for the donations, assuring the commitment of the staff to their duties.
