The Cross River State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 216 suspected drug peddlers and seized 5,813.26kg of cannabis sativa from dealers operating in the state.

A breakdown of the arrests shows 170 males and 46 females were apprehended during operations conducted between November 2025 and April 2026.

Speaking to journalists in his office yesterday, state commander, John Anteyi, said the command also recovered 23.15kg of cannabis sativa seeds and 168.75kg of psychotropic substances within the same period.

Further seizures included 154kg of cocaine, 602g of methamphetamine, 56.8g of heroin, 0.73g of ecstasy and 16.2 litres of cannabis tincture.

“The total drugs seized amount to 6008.977kgs (6.008 tons) and 16.2 litres of liquid,” Anteyi stated.

During the review period, operatives destroyed six hectares of cannabis farms. Anteyi noted that 15 tons of fresh cannabis sativa that was destroyed was worth over N500 million, while 119kg of cannabis being processed was also recovered from the farms.

On prosecutions, the commander said the command’s legal unit had secured 21 convictions for drug-related offenses in the last year, including 94 pending cases with 24 new cases filed.
