Accountant-general of the federation (AGF), Dr Oluwatoyin Shakirat Madein, has charged the newly sworn in executives of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) to take the profession to greater heights.
Madein gave the admonition at the investiture of the 8th chairperson of the society at the weekend in Abuja.
She said, “SWAN has a very unique position both in ICAN and the society at large. Therefore, the leadership of SWAN is very important and I want to charge the new chairperson and executives that you hold this baby very well in the next two years. This chapter must continue to soar higher and higher, taking the profession to greater heights.
“All the programmes and projects that SWAN has been carrying out in the past most tremendously increase in the next two years. Whether training, mentoring and leading girls into this noble profession, it’s not out of place if 80 percent of ICAN members are women,” Madein said.
The national president of ICAN, Dr Innocent Okwuosa, who was represented by his 2nd deputy vice president, Hajiya Queensly Seghosime, said SWAN has championed many laudable projects which has positively impacted female accountants in particular and the accounting profession at large.
“I want to reassure all our female members that the institute accord great respect and recognition to the female arm of ICAN,” she said.
The new chairperson of SWAN in Abuja, Mrs Monica Nosike, said she would help to build the capacity of members through training and seminars.
“We will leverage on technology and artificial intelligence landscape to organize seminars for our members to build their capacities,” she said
Nosike said her pet project: ‘’Adopt A Girl-child” would center on putting smiles on indigent but intelligent girls in public primary and secondary schools in order to assist them acquire quality education.
The national president of SWAN, Mrs Nwamara Catherine Nnaji, who swore in the new Abuja chairperson, asked the new executives to collaborate to achieve the objectives of SWAN and build on what their predecessors had done.
