AGILE To Train 9,000 Katsina Teachers, 36,600 Boys, Girls

The Adolescent Girls Initiative Learning and Empowerment (ASILE) project in Katsina State said it has set a target to train 9,000 teachers, 19,000 girls and 17,600 boys on digital learning, using local content development.

The state coordinator, Mustapha Shehu revealed this at a three-day capacity building of 20 master trainers and 200 teachers on a remote learning platform and creation of multimedia content. He said the training is part of the implementation of the AGILE project from digital literacy component, which is ongoing across the three senatorial zones of the state.

Stressing further that the objective is to train as many teachers as possible on remote learning and content development, he added that the project in collaboration with the Nigeria Learning Passport and support from the UNICEF has established a standard digital studio for contents development (e-lessons), and that students will have access to lessons via free Airtel-enables devices for continuous learning.

He said, “Ever since the country went to sleep in March 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was clear that digital power played a significant role in ensuring children continued to learn even when schools closed. All public schools in the country were completely closed and learning was at standstill.

“In order to avert future occurrences and to address the learning gap, the project intends to train teachers on the new methods of lesson delivery with the aid of local content development. The Project targets 9,000 teachers, 19,000 girls and 17,600 boys in the year 2023,” he said.
