The executive secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Cornelius Adebayo, has called for a radical shift in mindset among field officers to drive Nigeria toward total food sovereignty.

Speaking at a capacity-building workshop in Abuja, Adebayo emphasised that the authority is entering a new beginning aimed at bridging the gap between policy vision and grassroots execution.

The retreat, themed ‘Leading Nigeria’s Agricultural Revolution: Steering NALDA Towards Excellence,’ brought together state coordinators from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Central to the ES address was the 2031 Strategic Vision, a roadmap to transition Nigeria from mere food security to full food sovereignty.

Adebayo stressed that the success of this vision rests heavily on the performance of state leaders.

As the primary field officers, the state coordinators were urged to ensure diligent implementation of the authority’s various initiatives.

Adebayo highlighted that synergy across all levels of the organisation remains non-negotiable if the agency is to scale its impact.

He said, “We would have a structural problem if there is a disconnect between the headquarters and state coordinators,” Adebayo noted, explaining that the current workshop follows a recent session held for departmental directors. You are at the centre of the execution of NALDA’s projects.

I charge you all to leave this retreat with a new mindset. Nigeria is waiting for you. Together, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams, and NALDA is at the centre of achieving that.”

Key takeaways from the workshop include: strengthening NALDA’s statutory role in national food security, closing the operational gap between Abuja headquarters and state offices and ensuring that field projects align with the long-term 2031 vision to achieve abundance.
