The lobby for the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) continued yesterday ahead of the July 24 National Executive Committee (NEC).
Meanwhile, the Zamfara State chapter of the APC has urged the acting APC national chairman, Hon Ali Bukar Dalori, to bring his experience and hard work to bear in moving APC to a more envious position.
The state chapter, in a statement by its spokesman Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau, said this while congratulating Dalori on his emergence as the acting national chairman of APC.
The former APC national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, resigned last week on health grounds, setting off a race for who will become his successor.
Some stakeholders from the North Central zone, where the position was originally zoned ahead of the 2022 national convention, have called for the position to be returned to their zone.
Joining the clamour yesterday, an APC support group named APC Climate Change Network (ACCN), has urged the return of the position to the North Central.
The group, in a press statement jointly signed by its coordinator, Citizen Greg Odogwu, and legal officer, Barrister John Akpan, explained that its choice of Al-Makura was based both on his green development track record and inclusive governance personae.
They said “This endorsement reflects Senator Al-Makura’s track record as a former governor that prioritized the development of green infrastructure in Nasarawa State and his unwavering commitment to inclusion and sustainable development.
“For instance, it is on record that, being a person living with hearing impairment himself, the senator is known for mainstreaming issues that concern persons with disability (PWDs) and is a champion of inclusive governance, which is at the heart of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs),”.
The group said these characteristics were critical in the fight against climate change.
