Ahmadu Bello Foundation Honours Northern Leaders At 57th Anniversary

Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) has honoured northern leaders, killed on 15th January, said 2023 marked the 57th anniversary of the assassination of Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and other notable northern Nigeria leaders.

A statement issued to mark the day by Engr Abubakar Gambo Umar, director general/CEO of the SABMF said, “this year’s remembrance is dedicated to recreating in the minds of the people of the entire north, especially the upcoming leaders to know that Sir Ahmadu Bello was a role model who played prominent roles in the political evolution of the north and the country, whose service and dedication to the growth and development of the North was unparalleled, until cut short by his senseless murder on the 15 January 1966.

“The late Sir Ahmadu Bello will always be remembered for his tireless efforts to make northern Nigeria economically competitive, politically thriving, religiously stable, peaceful and united. 57 years after his demise, his name and legacies still educe memories and his image still looms larger than life not only in the North but across the country. Indeed the late premier was a pacesetter in almost all facets of modern developments in the North.

“The late premier’s leadership qualities greatly added value to the development of the region and its people of diverse ethnic backgrounds. The Sardauna and his compatriots will continually be remembered by generations of Nigerians because of the selfless service they rendered to the northern region and the country as a whole.”

“It is with greater honor that the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) celebrates this historic day considering how the foundation evolved, deriving its name from the late sage of blessed memory.

“Let’s accept that if we must make a difference as good leaders of this generation and of this great nation, who desire to make our states and nation better, then we must continue to emulate people like the late Sardauna and appreciate the selfless sacrifices made by our past leaders so that the labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain.
