The Ondo State government has said that the political ambition and actions of the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, were behind the tension and crisis in the State following the ill-health of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The State’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, disclosed this on Friday morning while featuring on Arise News breakfast talkshow – The Morning Show.

She dismissed the allegation that the ailing governor was incapacitated, insisting that Akeredolu was smoothly performing all his functions except not appearing in public or at the Ondo State Government House in Akure.

Ademola-Olateju, who, revealed that the governor was recovering from a “very bad” ailment, which she described as “somatic”, however, insisted that there was no cause for alarm save for political hullabaloo in the State.

She also explained that the State government was delivering on its mandate through the provision of infrastructure and social services including post-fuel subsidy palliative package to the people, adding that the noise about Governor Akeredolu’s health challenge was needless as it was mere political.

The Information Commissioner stated: “This (the noise) is needless, totally needless…This is just about ambition…

“Too much (projects) is going on in Ondo State, but the political noise has drowned everything because it is just based on ambition and this is unfortunate. Governance is not a circus, governance is not a joke.

“You can see from what is going on, what is even public record, that he (Aiyedatiwa) has gone about it in a very bad way because if I were him, I will act differently. The governor sees Aiyedatiwa, before all these things degenerated, as his son. Even everywhere, he mentioned Aiyedatiwa as his person. I don’t know when the trust broke down and things just went south. And since everything went south, he has gone about it the wrong way.

“His actions have polarised the Exco (State Executive Council), it has divided the State. When the peace was brokered in Aso Rock by our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I expected that he will come back and rally the troops, so that we face the issue of governance in Ondo State.”
