In a move to further support the vulnerable residents of Ajeromi Ifelodun local government area (LGA), the local government authority has distributed 2,000 units of food palliatives in partnership with the Lagos State government’s food aid programme.

The distribution, which took place at the council hall, was supervised by the vice chairman, Lucky Uduikhue, representing the local government chairman, Hon Fatai Ayoola, who was away in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj.

According to Uduikhue, the food palliatives, comprising 10kg bags of rice, are part of the LGA’s ongoing efforts to support its residents amid the current economic challenges.

“On our part, we had been sharing palliatives to our people since the past year. We gave out 5,000 units grains before the yuletide season, and distributed another 3,000 units on Ramadan Eve, and just last week, on Good Friday, we marked the day with another distribution of 1,000 units,” he stated.

In a statement by the supervisor, Information, Strategy and Communications, Samson Idowu-Alaba, the local government’s contribution to the state government’s food palliative scheme is a complementary effort to ensure that more households in the local government area benefit from the support.

The secretary to the local government, Lukumon Jimoh, commended the thoughtfulness of the chairman, Hon Ayoola, for providing the additional 2,000 units of food items.

“For today, I will have to commend the thoughtfulness of the chairman, Hon Ayoola, for the provision of these supporting units of 10kg bags of rice to increase the number of benefiting households.

“And yes, we hear that the state government is also planning a bumper palliative care to all community development associations, statewide. So, this is good news to those who are not considered for today’s food stuffs that they still have hope,” Jimoh said.

The distribution ceremony was attended by members of the executive council, councillors, community representatives and other stakeholders, ensuring a transparent and inclusive process.
