Former managing director of Daily Trust Newspapers and the Akogun of Ife-Olukotun, Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola, in line with principles of equity, justice, and fairness, has called on the political parties in Kogi State to zone their governorship ticket to Kogi West Senatorial District. Ajibola in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Abuja said the zone has credible candidates that are well prepared for the job if given the state to run as governor. He said the direction of Nigerian politics in recent times has focused on the principle of power zoning and rotation. Ajibola stressed the need to ensure the rotation of the governorship seat to the Kogi West Senatorial District for justice and fairness.

He said, “With the benefit of hindsight, I’m aware of a few groups within the district that are meeting and putting pressure on critical stakeholders in the major parties for power to rotate to the West Senatorial District of the state in November 2023, when the governorship election will be held. “One such group is the respected Kogi West Elders Forum (KWEF) steered by Gen. David Jemibewon, Gen. Mamman (rtd), Rear Admiral Ajayi, Chief Bayo Ojo, Alhaji Yusuf Tawari, Maj-Gen Osanupin (rtd), Mr. Dan Kunle, Elder Benjamin Olowodola, Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola, Dr. Tunji Arosanyi, Dr. David Atte, Mr. Femi Mokikan (SAN), Chief Funmi Bodunde, Prof Emily, etc.” He said the forum has met the incumbent governor on the issue up to four times since 2019.

Ajibola said the forum has also in the last two weeks invited aspirants of all the political parties, who have obtained governorship forms in different political parties, to an engagement meeting in Abuja. “I’m part of this process and have found out that we have incredible candidates that are well prepared for the job if given the state to run as governorship candidates that will perform exceedingly well on the job,” he added
