He made this known during the Annual Roundtable on Cultural Orientation (ARTCO),with the theme “Harnessing Nigeria’s Cultural Identities to Berth a Strong National Identity”, held in Abuja, yesterday.

According to him Nigeria’s diversity is a treasure trove of creativity, innovation and purposes, but we have often allowed these differences to divide rather than unite us.

He said, “In NICO, we believe that our cultural identities are the threads that weave together our fabrics of nationhood. This reminds me of the wise words of our National Anthem ‘though tribes and tongues may differ in brotherhood we stand.’

“By harnessing our diverse cultural identities,we can build a strong national inclusive, dynamic, united and prosperous nation. A Nigeria where our diversity is celebrated not tolerated.

A country where our cultural Identities are the foundation of our strength and not the source of our weakness.”

He added that to build a united and strong nation, Nigerians must foster inclusivity, encourage cultural exchange, develop cultural education and promote cultural tourism.

“Let us harness our diverse cultural identities to anchor a strong national identity that will propel and make us a beacon of hope for generations to come,” Ajiboye stated.

Also speaking Prof Femi Omotoso, former dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Ekiti State University,Ado- Ekiti, said, “At the core of any nation’s identity lies in its ability to embrace and celebrate the diversity of its people. In the context of Nigeria, a country known for its rich cultural diversity and complex history, fostering intergenerational and inter-ethnic understanding is particularly crucial for shaping a strong national identity.

“Through meaningful interactions and dialogue, challenging stereotypes, promoting empathy, and working towards mutual understanding, Nigerians can overcome divisions and work together towards a more just and cohesive nation.”
